6 Conclusions and Recommendations

6.1 Conclusions
This SoHI report has assessed the significance of the subject area and heritage items in proximity to this
area by consideration of the statutory listings, archival and historical record, and physical evidence in and
around the subject area. It has assessed the proposed works proposal for its potential to impact the
heritage value of items and the subject area. The summary of this reports findings is as follows:
6.1.1 Summary of Cultural Significance
The subject area, while it navigates between the curtilages of two heritage items, and through the
disappearing former agricultural landscape of the Nepean floodplain near Camden, does not hold any
particular historical value. The road reserve of Camden Valley Way, which follows the former Hume
Highway9s route from Camden to Narellan, does not show any particular relationship with this alignment,
and has been substantially modified over time. The subject area, which consist of this road reserve and
former agricultural lands, has a very low chance for archaeological potential, and has been severely
disturbed by ongoing transformative processes. The subject area holds no special connection to previous
historical figures or local social or community groups, and is a functional space used for transit through the
landscape.
6.1.2 Summary of Heritage Impacts
The subject area is not considered to have its own heritage value, despite the proximity to heritage items,
and is unlikely to be impacted by the proposed works. There will be some reduction in curtilage for both
items, and some removal of non-significant fencing and vegetation from along Camden Valley Way9s road
reserve. There is the possibility of potential physical impacts to the southern structure within the 8Yamba9
heritage item, but these can be avoided. The proposed works will modify the visual landscape in and
around the subject area, but this is unlikely to cause negative impacts to the heritage value of nearby items
or the subject area.
Whether the Proposed Works are Acceptable or Not Acceptable
It is the outcome of this report that the proposed works pose an acceptable risk to heritage value of the
subject area and identified heritage items, and that works should proceed with caution, as long as
recommended management measures are put in place.
