Historical Phase
Description of phase
Phase 1: Initial Discovery
This phase is characterised by the initial discovery of the cow pastures/Camden
district by British authorities and first European occupation.
Phase 2: Settlement of the
Camden District
The settlement and first land grants provided to colonial landholders is what
characterises this phase. The subject area was initially part of the 8Kirkham9
estate/locality.
Phase 3: Subdivision and smallscale agriculture
This phase lasts from the late 19th/early 20th Century subdivision of larger
properties within the subject area into smaller agriculturally based smaller
farms, with named cottages such as 8Yamba9.
Phase 4: population pressure
and suburban development
This phase is characterised by the current trend of prioritising land use for
suburban development above the previous agricultural use, a transition which
occurred in the subject area during the 1980s and is ongoing.
