Review of Environmental Factors - Camden Valley Way Upgrade and Liz Kernohan Drive Extension (Final) - Flipbook - Page 641
Plate 6: 2004 historical aerial of the subject area showing the positions of 8Yamba9 (Yellow Arrow) and
8Rheinbergers Hill9 (Red Arrow) indicated, with encroaching suburban development visible (source: NSW Spatial
Services).
Historical imagery from 2004 shows further development of the landscape surrounding the subject area, as
new suburbs are being laid out in parts of the image. The properties seem abandoned, with a significant
amount of vegetation growth encroaching on the houses, with outbuildings left to collapse or be removed.
The change from cultivation around the subject area to development and further settlement of this
landscape shows a changing of cultural priorities.
The final overview in this analysis series is taken from available 2023 satellite imagery (Plate 7) and shows a
further increase in development around the subject area. The two properties are now little more than
suburban houses on larger lots, and the 8Rheinbergers Hill9 house is located within public parklands, which
have been stripped of their vegetation. An increase in playing fields, and the construction of a shared
bicycle/footpath which runs past this house, along the southern side of Camden Valley Way indicates the
change of use from cultivation for agriculture to recreation and settlement. The southern outbuilding which
is on the 8Yamba9 property is overgrown, and few of the other structures previously evident on this
property remain intact. The non-perennial watercourse opposite Kirkham Lane has had its router between
the growing suburbs formalised, and with the surrounding houses providing run-off, is now functioning as
stormwater management.
