6.13.4 Recommendation 2:
During construction, the majority of works are likely to be carried out during standard working hours
(i.e., 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am –1pm Saturdays). The Site Manager is to ensure that any
work that is performed outside normal work hours or on a Sunday or public holiday minimises noise
impacts in accordance with Roads and Maritime’s Environmental Noise Management Manual Practice
Note 7 – Roadworks Outside of Normal Working Hours and the ICNG.
6.13.5 Recommendation 3:
During construction, the Site Manager is to ensure that construction personnel is made familiar with
the potential for noise and vibration impacts upon local residents and encouraged to take all practical
and reasonable measures to minimise noise during the course of their activities.
6.13.6 Recommendation 4:
During construction and where practical, the Site Manager is to ensure that the layout and
positioning of noise-producing plant and activities at each work site are located and orientated to
minimise noise emission levels.
6.13.7 Recommendation 5:
During construction and where practicable, the Site Manager is to ensure that equipment is selected
to minimise noise emissions. Equipment is to be fitted with appropriate noise control equipment
and be in good working order.
6.13.8 Recommendation 6:
During construction and where practical/possible, the Site Manager is to ensure that non-beeper
reversing movement alarms are used such as broadband (non-tonal) alarms or ambient noisesensing alarms. Work site layouts will be designed to reduce the need for reversing, potentially
minimising the use of reversing beepers.
6.13.9 Recommendation 7:
During construction, the Site Manager is to ensure that vehicles, plant and equipment are regularly
inspected and maintained to avoid increased noise levels from rattling hatches, loose fittings etc.
6.13.10
Recommendation 8:
During construction, the Site Manager is to ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment will be shut
down when not in use.
6.13.11
Recommendation 9:
During construction, the recommended safe working distances for vibration intensive plant are to be
considered during construction planning. Mitigation measures may be required where sensitive
receivers are located closer to the construction work than the safe working distances.
